"Androcles and the Lions" is a play written by George Bernard Shaw in 1912. It won the Nobel Prize for literature.

The Preface, an essay, is a long examination of the Gospels in which Shaw provides a penetrating analysis of the Bible and gives his findings. Shaw states that Jesus was a benevolent genius in areas ranging from moral to social to economical, and that he eventually brought ideas of his divinity and impending martyrdom into popular thought. Shaw says that the teachings of Jesus were lost with his crucifixion and that churches actually worship Paul or Barabbas.

This ebook edition includes both the Preface essay and the play. It has been edited for modernity by George Arthur Lareau.
